VOLUNTEER STORIES

“I never volunteered much before my involvement in the Bridge so I'm grateful for the club's efforts in making it possible. It feels good to help others. And in doing so, you help yourself - in my applications for vacation clerkships with the big Brisbane law firms, the HR people were particularly interested in my voluntary work. I think it made a good impression.”

“I wanted to thank you for the opportunity the Academic Research project has provided for me. As a second year Science student, I struggled to choose a specific major for my third year studies, and it wasn’t until I volunteered in a parasitological lab at uni helping with data analysis and basic lab procedures that my passion for majoring in Parsitology was flourished. There are so many project opportunities within the Academic Research website and I encourage everyone at uni to get involved in research volunteering!”

| "I have found working at the McIntyre Centre to be extremely enjoyable. The staff and children involved with the Centre are very friendly and the ability to help others is extremely rewarding. The Bridge has also been great. They were always extremely helpful and supportive, responding quickly to all of my questions and providing great advice."

“I wanted to let you know how pleased I am to being helping out with the tutoring. The children are so sweet, smart and fun to work with. I'm glad that I am able to help out with such a great cause. I think it is amazing what George [at the Anglicare Book and Literacy Centre] has started and what enthusiasm the kids show. I think that it is great that the Bridge started and found out about all these programs. Thanks for the experience and hope everything is going well.”

| "The Friends of Federation Walk always put on a BBQ for us after our hard work, which was very much appreciated. The trip down to the Gold Coast also proved to be a good chance for the Brisso's to go for a couple of waves when we were done. All in all, an awesome way to spend a Sunday morning!!!"

“My experience with Access Arts and The Bridge organisation has been wonderfully rewarding, giving me the opportunity to experience parts of life that I would never have been able to otherwise. Through The Bridge and Access Arts I have seen what a wonderful difference can be made to people's lives by caring individuals who are genuinely trying to make life a nicer place for other people who need a little hand in the world. I have also gained friendships and learnt a lot about others and myself, through Access Arts and other Bridge events. Without The Bridge none of this would have been possible. I greatly thank all of those responsible for this opportunity and look forward to my future experiences with The Bridge.”

| "Joining The Bridge has been great. It has given me the opportunity to work with and help people I normally wouldn't encounter in my daily uni life. It has been extremely rewarding to give back to the community, and a fantastic learning experience."
